Dr. Ness has written several books on diversity:

  1. Multi-ethnic Perspectives on Leading Diversity in Organizations (2004, Proquest)
  2. The 30-Minute Leader: Eclectic Leadership (a new model) (2004, self-pubished)
  3. High School Survival Guide (2008, Backintyme Publishing)
  4. Teacher's Manual for High School Survival Guide (2007, self-published)

Multi-ethnic Perspectives on Leading Diversity in Oganizations is my doctoral dissertation that can be purchased thru ProQuest.

The 30-Minute Leader is a snapshot of the findings from the doctoral study.

Teacher's Manual contains lessons aligned with AZ state standards and has been well-received by teachers who have had the opportunity to teach The Guide to middle and high school students.

Dr. Ness's qualitative phenomenological leadership study describes the experiences, perspectives, and understandings of 20 ethnically diverse leaders on leading diversity (11 females and 9 males of the following races/ethnicities: 4 Asians, 3 African Americans, 3 Louisiana Creoles, 4 Hispanics, 3 Native Americans, and 3 Whites).

The 30-Minute Leader: Eclectic Leadership (a new model) is a user-friendly, 35-page summary of this study. In a nutshell, the book discusses the themes inherent in diversity, lessons learned therefrom, and remedies thereto.

The Teacher's Manual may be used in the clasroom to prepare middle and high school students for the high school culture thru lessons on self-esteem, identity, stereotyping, perception, and oppression.

Cost:  $12.00 (includes shipping and handling) for each of the above books, while supplies last.

High School Survival Guide. Truancy is a major challenge with middle and high school students. This challenge is secondary to growing attitudes of apathy and nihilism, which may be a direct result of feelings of being unprepared and culturally incompetent. This book is designed to address these challenges by helping students to build healthy self-esteem through identifying similarities and respecting differences across cultures (cliques, high school vs middle school, ethnic, etc.) and to develop a sense of purpose. Theoretically, a confident student with a purpose is more likely to attend class and apply him or herself. Additionally, this book is designed to support the teacher, promote education, define and build self-esteem, discourage stereotyping, and teach students to investigate the big picture before drawing conclusions or forming an opinion through awareness of the complexities of perception. It is a tool that promotes a positive outlook while sneaking in learning in the process. Available thru all major booksellers, including Amazon.com.

"I just wanted to let you know that I am truly impressed and inspired by what you’ve said in this book…you have said things in your book that most parents and/or adults don’t even remember or understand; it’s like you still know how hard it is to be a kid/teen"--Michelle, 13-year-old student, Chandler, AZ

"I believe the information provided in this book to be of value for every student and teacher of any ethnicity or demographic. At a time when our schools are suffering increases in truancy and dropout rates, this book offers a much needed resource to assist students…it is sincere and bolsters positive outlooks and behaviors." –Rep. Ben Miranda, AZ House of Representatives

"Skyline has been really happy to present this author’s views in our school. She speaks the language that students need to hear and in the way they want to listen"—Ronda Owens, M.Ed., Superintendent, Skyline K-12 Schools, AZ

"My students LOVED this book! It kept their interest—I’m confident it will help them to succeed next year in high school!"—Sister Martha Carpenter, Principal, St. Peter Indian Mission School
